Bungie has officially announced that its PvPvE extraction shooter Marathon will release on March 5, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The reveal includes a star-studded English voice cast of 33 actors and details on pre-order editions starting at $40. A limited-edition DualSense controller and other peripherals will accompany the launch.
Bungie's Marathon, a team-based FPS extraction shooter set on the derelict colony of Tau Ceti IV, faced a turbulent development path marked by delays, leadership changes, legal challenges, and a settled plagiarism scandal involving stolen assets. Originally slated for September 23, 2025, the game was postponed after mixed feedback from its reveal and alpha playtests. Bungie focused on enhancing survival elements, lore, world-building, and social features for solo and duo players. Sony confirmed a March 2026 window last November, with a public beta planned for late February.
The official trailer, which leaked early via the Xbox Store, showcases runners infiltrating the colony to scavenge weapons, upgrades, and loot amid PvPvE combat against rival teams and hostile UESC forces. Players customize cybernetic mercenaries with unique abilities and runner shells for varied playstyles, culminating in challenges on the overhanging Marathon ship. The game emphasizes Bungie's signature gunplay, multiple maps, ranked mode, and anti-cheat measures for fair play.
Pre-orders open soon for the Standard Edition ($40), including all gameplay updates and bonuses like weapon cosmetics and Destiny 2 rewards such as the UESC Echo-type Shell, Rover Ship, and Sprinter Sparrow. The Deluxe Edition adds a rewards pass voucher, 200 SILK tokens, and Midnight Decay cosmetics for weapons and shells. The Collector's Edition features a 1/6-scale Thief Runner Shell statue, WEAVEworm miniature, embroidered patch, and postcards.
Marathon's English voice cast boasts talents like Jennifer English (Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), Ben Starr and Tracy Wiles (from Expedition 33 and Baldur's Gate 3), Neil Newbon (Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3), Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2), and Elias Toufexis (Adam Jensen in Deus Ex). The full list includes Krizia Bajos, Samantha Béart, and others, with fully localized dialogue for supported languages.
PlayStation announced a Marathon-themed DualSense controller ($84.99) and Pulse Elite headset ($169.99, U.S. only), available for pre-order on January 29, 2026. As Arc Raiders dominates the genre, Marathon aims to carve its niche with these updates.
