Houston Astros third baseman Carlos Correa underwent surgery Monday morning to repair a tendon in his left ankle. The injury occurred last Tuesday while he was swinging in the batting cage at Daikin Park, and he is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Astros manager Joe Espada spoke with Correa via FaceTime on Monday and said the player plans to return to the dugout once he is off crutches. Espada noted that Correa's presence helps young players stay calm and learn how to approach at-bats and defensive positioning. He added that Correa will be back in the dugout as soon as he can move around comfortably.
