The Chicago Cubs intend to activate infielder Matt Shaw from the injured list before their series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Tuesday. The move was reported by ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, though the team has not confirmed it.
Shaw has been sidelined since May 22 with back tightness. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on June 2. Before the injury, Shaw batted 1-for-22 in May. Earlier in the season he posted a .301/.342/.507 slash line with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 28 games. The 24-year-old former top prospect has appeared in 42 games this year and started 23 of them. He has played every position except pitcher, catcher and shortstop. The Cubs have gone 7-20 in their recent stretch and signed Alex Bregman in the offseason to play third base.
