A new march wound through central Valencia on Saturday to demand accountability from Carlos Mazón over his handling of the October 29, 2024 DANA floods.
The main victims’ associations led the protest, which coincided with the third week of the Valencian teachers’ indefinite strike. Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for political and criminal responsibility and displayed banners criticizing the emergency management and the use of alerts.
Nineteen months after the disaster, the groups retraced the route of the first demonstrations to demand “truth, justice and reparation”. They also called for immediate emergency works in the affected municipalities.
The march followed the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community’s decision not to investigate Mazón and the closure of the parliamentary inquiry, which victims described as a “paripé”. Spokespeople insisted that the former leader’s continued presence in public office is “a direct mockery of the citizens”.
