Defense minister Barros declares over $30 billion in investments

Chile's Defense Minister Fernando Barros Tocornal submitted a 48-page asset declaration to the Comptroller General of the Republic detailing over $30 billion in financial instruments. It includes a $10.445 million trust with Picton and a broad portfolio of bonds and funds. Barros also reported corporate stakes, real estate, and vehicles.

Fernando Barros Tocornal, Defense Minister and former partner at Barros & Errázuriz, reported a portfolio management contract with Picton Administradora General de Fondos for $10.445 million, signed on April 10, 2026, before notary Andrés Felipe Rieutord Alvarado.

His portfolio includes about $15 billion in bonds across nearly 48 positions, such as Cemex ($661 million), CMPC ($649 million), BCI ($394 million), and international banks like USB ($551 million) and HSBC ($617 million). He also holds $5 billion in investment fund quotas, led by the SPDR S&P 500 ETF at $2.411 million.

Barros listed $2 billion in term deposits, including one at Itaucorp for $1.003 million, and rights worth $8 billion, such as $6.935 million from Inversiones Familiares BV. He owns stakes in Inmobiliaria Macul (20%), Agrícola Puerto Coihue (98%), and Rentas Quilín.

Real estate includes a property in El Coigüe at Lago Todos Los Santos in Puerto Varas, with a fiscal appraisal of $152 million, plus shares in farms and properties in Zapallar and Isla de Maipo. He also declared three vehicles, including a 2019 Mercedes Benz S 560 valued at $65 million.
