Demon Slayer film nominated for Golden Globe

The popular Japanese film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Infinity Castle — Akaza Sairai” has been nominated for best animated motion picture at the 83rd Golden Globes. The awards serve as a precursor to the Academy Awards. Winners will be announced on January 11 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

The film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — Infinity Castle — Akaza Sairai” follows young protagonist Tanjiro Kamado as he trains and battles demons alongside his friends. It marks the first installment of a three-part series that depicts intense confrontations in the Infinity Castle, the demons' stronghold.

The nomination for best animated motion picture was announced on Monday, December 9, 2025. The Golden Globes are regarded as a key indicator for the Academy Awards in Hollywood.

A win would make it the second Japanese film to claim the animated feature award, following Hayao Miyazaki's “The Boy and the Heron,” which triumphed in 2024.

In contrast, the Japanese blockbuster “Kokuho,” directed by Lee Sang-il, was anticipated for a nomination in the best non-English motion picture category but did not receive one.

The ceremony is set for January 11 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, drawing attention from industry insiders and fans alike. This recognition underscores the growing global acclaim for Japanese animation.
