Dermatologist remanded to 14-day judicial custody in murder case

A Delhi court on Sunday sent dermatologist Manish Gupta to 14-day judicial custody in the murder of his domestic help Mina Haldar.

The remand followed two days of police custody granted earlier. Police had sought the time to recover clothes and other evidence from the East of Kailash residence.

The case surfaced on June 18 after a neighbour alerted police to the body of 58-year-old Mina Haldar. Officers recovered a bat and a knife from the house.

Mr. Gupta, a dermatologist, admitted to the killing during initial questioning, police said. Haldar had worked for the family for 16 years and was from Kolkata.

The court also ordered a medical examination of the accused before he returns to the Duty Magistrate.
