Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced the opening and upgrading of several dental departments and clinics in government medical facilities in January 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and expand access for citizens.
Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population has taken steps to bolster oral healthcare by launching a new dental department at Toukh Central Hospital in Qalyubeya governorate and reopening a renovated dental clinic at the Safaga health unit in the Red Sea governorate. This initiative, carried out in January 2026, distributed 39 fully equipped dental units to 38 hospitals and medical centers across 17 governorates, including Cairo, Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh, Qena, Dakahleya, Gharbeya, Monufeya, Sohag, Fayoum, Assiut, Beheira, Sharqeya, Alexandria, North Sinai, Giza, and Minya.
Under the Decent Life Initiative in Sohag, dental services were activated with the installation of dental chairs in health units in the Tama and Maragha districts. The ministry also replaced or renovated 22 dental chairs in health facilities across four governorates and upgraded four dental prosthetics laboratories to enhance treatment services.
Peter Wagih, assistant health minister for therapeutic affairs, stated that 642 dental interns were deployed to hospitals and health units nationwide during the month. Training sessions and scientific workshops were held for 444 dentists. Inspection teams conducted field visits to 58 hospitals in five governorates to monitor service delivery and ensure compliance with medical standards.
Health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar noted that the ministry will continue upgrading dental services and healthcare infrastructure while expanding training programs for medical staff to ensure safe and high-quality care across the country.
