Kenya's Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee has suspended President Hussein Mohammed, member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim and Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru over allegations of financial impropriety involving Ksh42 million from CHAN funds. Deputy President Macdonald Mariga has been appointed acting president pending investigations. The decision was made by nine of the 14 NEC members on April 24.
The FKF National Executive Committee held a high-level meeting and ordered President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim, and Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru to step aside immediately.
This allows investigations by FKF, national and international bodies into alleged financial impropriety of public funds and statutory breaches.
Deputy President Macdonald Mariga was directed to act as president and convene an urgent NEC meeting.
All FKF bank accounts linked to the suspended president were ordered frozen to preserve evidence.
The committee called for an independent forensic audit of funds from CAF, FIFA and the Ministry of Sports.
Allegations include misappropriation of about Ksh42 million from CHAN accounts, conflicts of interest and non-competitive procurement.
Mohammed pushed back against the claims on Thursday, calling them a malicious campaign.
"Once I started the process of cleaning house, it was inevitable that corruption would fight back," he said.
"Through such a malicious campaign, a lifetime of sacrifice, dedication, and investment to help develop our social fabric through sports can go up in smoke, just like that. Reputation ruined forever. I shall not allow it."
Three NEC members—Charles Njagi, Ahmedqadar Mohammed Dabar and Kenneth Rungu—did not attend the meeting.
The committee cited restoring public confidence and safeguarding Kenyan football's integrity as key reasons for the action.
