According to the Morelos State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPCM), the head-on collision between the private car and the bus sparked a fire that engulfed both vehicles.
Four people died at the scene, and eleven others were taken with serious injuries to the Hospital General de Zona No. 1 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Cuernavaca. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or the injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus belonged to the 'los morados' transportation line, though this has not been officially confirmed due to the extensive damage from the fire.
Officials closed the highway in both directions for several hours to manage the emergency. Teams from municipal Civil Protection, Cuernavaca Firefighters, Mexico City Firefighters, Morelos Red Cross, and the National Guard responded to the scene. The National Guard secured the perimeter during operations.
Investigators from the Morelos State Attorney General's Office (FGE) began proceedings, including the recovery of the bodies, which were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service. Rescue efforts, fire control, and road cleanup lasted until early Sunday morning, with traffic reopening at 05:00, as reported by Quadratin agency.
