Frankfurt Tatort episode Licht disappoints, actor impresses

The second episode of Frankfurt's new Tatort team, 'Licht', marks a clear drop after a strong start and centers on a sect. One actor stands out nonetheless. Felician Hohnloser impresses in a supporting role as an internal investigator.

The new Tatort episode 'Licht', produced by the HR editorial team under Jörg Himstedt and Erin Högerle, is set in Frankfurt am Main. Following the praised debut of the new team, the second case involving an esoteric sect disappoints markedly. The plot revolves around Detective Hamza Kulina, played by Edin Hasanović, who is reassigned to cold cases after an escalated operation.

A standout is the return of Felician Hohnloser. The actor, who two weeks ago portrayed the annoying yet endearing Reini – brother of Detective Berg – in a Black Forest Tatort, appears here as an internal investigator. He probes Kulina, embodying a cold, bureaucratic figure who speaks down from a superior position without overdoing the chill. Hohnloser adds his own nuances, appearing so transformed that viewers must check the credits to connect him to the previous role.

Hohnloser's versatility shines: In January, he played a frightening neo-Nazi in Stuttgart. The episode explores esotericism, fitting its title, but overall impact falls short of the premiere.
