Government issues 986 title deeds at Kisima settlement scheme in Nakuru

The Kenyan government has issued 986 title deeds to residents at the Kisima Settlement Scheme in Nakuru County, offering relief to displaced families. The ceremony on January 30, 2026, was led by Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome. This step fulfills a commitment to resettle internally displaced persons.

On January 30, 2026, in Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County, the government distributed 986 title deeds to residents of the Kisima Settlement Scheme. The event was presided over by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome and Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir.

Wahome stressed that the initiative goes beyond land distribution, representing a return of dignity, stability, and hope to displaced families. She stated, “Today is more than a land allocation exercise; it is the restoration of dignity, stability, and hope. After years of waiting, uncertainty, and court processes, the 433 families who were displaced can finally call Kisima home. This Government made a promise to settle the landless, and today we are fulfilling it.”

Of the 986 deeds, 433 went to internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Kisima, 30 to public utilities, 45 to former workers, and the rest to the Kiptuko Group. Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika expressed delight, noting that IDPs can now build homes and plan ahead without fear. She added, “Today is a day of joy for Njoro and Nakuru County. Families who have waited for years can finally settle on their own land, build their homes, and plan for the future. Kisima is no longer just a farm; it is a community of hope, opportunity, and new beginnings.”

The ceremony was attended by the Nakuru County Commissioner, local MPs, county assembly members, and community leaders. The 1,112-acre Kisima farm was bought by the government in 2012 through the Settlement Fund Trustees to house 433 IDPs from pipeline areas in Nakuru County. This action realizes President William Ruto’s pledge to deliver title deeds and address historical land conflicts.

Previously, in October 2025, the government issued 2,752 deeds to Kiptangwanyi residents in Gilgil Constituency, ending a 50-year wait.
