Hong Kong doctor fired for posting resuscitation photo faces Medical Council case

Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority has terminated a doctor’s contract after he posted a photo of a resuscitation procedure in a public hospital, breaching its code of conduct. The Kowloon West Cluster announced the decision on Tuesday, stating the doctor lacked integrity and damaged the professional image of doctors. The case has been passed to the Medical Council for follow-up.

Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority’s Kowloon West Cluster announced on Tuesday that it had completed its investigation into the incident.

“We confirm that the staff member breached the code of conduct and lacked integrity, with such behaviours seriously damaging the professional image of doctors,” it said. The cluster has terminated its contract with the staff involved and passed the relevant case to the Medical Council for follow-up in accordance with its mechanism.

The announcement came one day after the cluster stated the man was “no longer an employee”.

The authority stressed that all staff must adhere to professional codes of conduct, maintain integrity and uphold the principle of protecting patients’ rights and privacy. The Medical Council is responsible for the registration and disciplinary regulation of medical practitioners in the city.

The doctor had posted a photo of a resuscitation procedure in a public hospital on Instagram.
