In Diekholzen, the handballers of Hsg Ostsee N/G fought for desperately needed points in the 3. Liga. Before tip-off, coach Mirko Spieckermann emphasized: "Everyone knows what's at stake." The team started focused and built a lead from 7:4 (10th minute) to 13:8 (19th minute).
In the second half, Jasper Bruhn scored to make it 23:21 (43rd minute), but just one minute later he received a red card. The hosts seized the momentum and took a 25:24 lead (47th minute). "That was the turning point," Spieckermann said later: "For me, it wasn't a red card, and Jasper himself called it a routine foul."
Finn Kretschmer, Ostsee's top scorer with six goals, narrowed it to 27:28 (51st minute). But Söhre pulled away with a 4:0 run to 32:27 (55th minute). The seven-goal defeat was unexpectedly clear.
"That was bitter; we played our system really well for 43 minutes," Spieckermann lamented over the decision. "We have to pick up those points against other opponents now. Best on Saturday in the home game against Aue."
