Several candidates have emerged to contest the Taita Taveta governorship in 2027. Incumbent Governor Andrew Mwadime and his deputy Christine Kilalo are seeking a second term.
Taita Taveta County has never had a governor serve two terms since its establishment. First governor John Mruttu lost to Granton Samboja in 2017, who in turn lost to Andrew Mwadime in 2022. Samboja has indicated plans to contest again. Other aspirants include MP Danson Mwashako, Senator Jones Mwaruma, Shadrack Mwadime, Anderson Mtalaki and John Mwangemi. Mruttu has shifted focus to the Senate race. Mwadime, who won as an independent, has signaled intent to defend the seat under the UDA party.
