Justin Muturi urges IEBC to probe alleged Mbeere North election rigging

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to investigate claims of a scheme to rig the upcoming Mbeere North by-elections. He alleges plans to hire goons from Nairobi and Kiambu to disrupt polling stations and bribe voters. The by-elections are scheduled for November 27, 2025.

On November 21, 2025, Justin Muturi, former Public Service Cabinet Secretary and a prominent opposition figure, issued a statement accusing a group of politicians of orchestrating efforts to manipulate the Mbeere North by-elections in favor of a pro-government candidate. Muturi detailed allegations of hiring goons from Nairobi and Kiambu counties, facilitated by National Government Administration Officers, who would be escorted by the National Police Service to targeted polling stations for disruption.

He highlighted a heavy presence of these individuals in towns such as Kanyuambura, Ishiara, and Siakago, describing the plot as well-financed and deployed. "The schemes to corrupt the Mbeere North by-election are no longer rumours. They are orchestrated, financed and deployed. Importing goons, bribing voters, and plotting to intimidate citizens will not rewrite the will of the people," Muturi stated.

In his formal petition to the IEBC, Muturi demanded immediate measures to counter these activities and an updated voter register for election day to prevent issues like missing names. "I have formally demanded that IEBC stop this lawlessness and guarantee a free, fair and credible election on November 27. Mbeere North refuses to be bullied. Democracy will not be auctioned," he added.

This call follows the IEBC's warning the previous day against double voter registration and falsification of details, underscoring broader concerns over electoral integrity in Kenya's upcoming polls.
