Kaduna allocates N100 million to each ward in 2026 budget

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has signed the 2026 budget, allocating N100 million to each of the state's 255 wards to drive grassroots development.

On Monday, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, totaling N985.9 billion. The budget prioritizes education with a 25% allocation, aligning with UNESCO's recommendation for developing nations to devote a quarter of their budgets to education to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Mukhtar Ahmed Morovia, described the N100 million allocation to each of the 255 wards as historic and consistent with the governor's grassroots development agenda. He stated that the funds will be disbursed transparently, with communities deciding priorities through Ward Development Committees. The money targets projects in health, education, agriculture, and social sectors, to be implemented by relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Governor Sani, a proponent of inclusivity, emphasized ensuring even development across all communities without leaving any behind. The Education Commissioner, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, noted that the sector's share reflects the governor's priority on education in line with UNESCO guidelines.

Additionally, the Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Patience Fakai, announced that the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development is now fully operational, capable of training up to 32,000 students annually across 14 trade areas to boost employability.

The budget allocates N698.9 billion (70.9%) to capital expenditure for infrastructure, economic growth, and service delivery, while recurrent expenditure of N287 billion (29.1%) sustains essential government functions.
