Krys Marshall will voice a grownup character in Toy Story 5 who contends with her child's interest in technology, pitting traditional toys against modern gadgets. The fifth installment brings back Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Tom Hanks as Woody and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Greta Lee voices the smart device Lilypad, which disrupts playtime. Deadline exclusively confirmed the casting details, kept under wraps regarding the character's name. Marshall first connected with Stanton while he directed episodes of Apple TV+'s For All Mankind. After having a child and learning of Toy Story 5 at D23, she emailed him expressing interest. Nine months later, she received an offer. 'We got on like a house on fire. I adore Andrew,' Marshall said. This marks her debut in an animated feature, following voice work in Black Panther and commercials. On the film's themes, Marshall noted, 'We’re all guilty of having our noses pointed into our phones... there’s no replacement for human imagination and that will always prevail.' On her first day, Stanton showed her a 30-year-old clip of Tom Hanks recording Woody.
