La Libertad Avanza deputy arrives at Congress in Tesla Cybertruck

Jujuy deputy Manuel Quintar surprised observers this week by parking his Tesla Cybertruck at the lower house annex. The electric vehicle, valued at $126,000, is one of fewer than ten such models in Argentina.

Quintar confirmed the vehicle is his own and used it to attend Congress. He described the purchase as part of a cultural battle and said there is nothing wrong with buying what one can afford with declared personal funds.

The deputy posted a photo of the truck bearing the La Libertad Avanza logo in May. His 2024 asset declaration also lists a Mercedes-Benz ML 320, a Volkswagen Amarok, a Toyota Hiace wagon and two motorcycles.

Other owners include streamer Coscu and influencer Barby Franco. Local importer Malek Fara brings the vehicles into the country. Juan Carlos López Mena keeps his unit registered in Uruguay.

Victor Nechita, Tesla's vehicle program manager for the Cybercab, has left the company after nearly nine years, just days after the first production unit rolled off the line at Gigafactory Texas. Nechita, who joined as a Model 3 intern in 2017, led the Cybercab from concept to initial production. His departure adds to a series of senior executive exits at Tesla amid preparations for volume production in April.

Tesla has introduced a more affordable version of its Cybertruck, priced at $60,000 in the US, which could cost around NIS 300,000 in Israel after tax benefits. This move aims to boost sales of the electric pickup, which has underperformed since its 2019 unveiling. The new model features reduced specifications compared to previous versions.

A Tesla Cybertruck with Sichuan Province green license plates was photographed driving in Zhengzhou on March 9, 2026, highlighting the growing trend of parallel imports for the electric pickup in China. Despite no official sales channel from Tesla, wealthy buyers are navigating regulatory hurdles to register these vehicles at steep prices exceeding 3 million CNY. The sightings underscore persistent demand amid certification challenges.
