An analysis by Mejor CDT reveals that most Colombians spend their service bonus quickly. The study highlights high levels of regret due to lack of financial planning.
According to the report published on June 20, 2026, nearly 90 percent of respondents convert this extra income into everyday expenses or immediate consumption. Historically, 88 percent of Colombians end up using the bonus this way.
Carlos Correa, executive director of Mejor CDT, stated: “Muchos colombianos van a recibir prima de mitad de año, e históricamente 88% de ellos se les vuelve plata de bolsillo. Invertirla en un CDT ayuda a que no se arrepientan de gastársela”.
The study also indicates that 79 percent of Colombians regret how they used these resources. In cities like Barranquilla, regret reaches 85 percent, followed by Bogotá with 76 percent.
