The National Transport and Safety Authority has warned Kenyans about fake SMS messages that falsely claim traffic violations and direct recipients to suspicious payment links.

The National Transport and Safety Authority confirmed on May 24 that the messages are fraudulent. NTSA stated it does not collect traffic fines through unsolicited texts or unverified platforms.

Fraudsters have sent the messages since mid-May from numbers including 0141 583648 and +254 795 729 389. The texts urge payments via links to fake websites that request card details such as name, number and CVV.

NTSA said legitimate contact uses short codes NTSA or 22847_NTSA and the website ntsa.go.ke. The authority advised recipients not to click links, reply or pay, and to delete the messages. Those who have paid should contact their bank immediately.

NTSA is working with investigative agencies to identify those responsible.
