NTSA announces e-logbook system for vehicle records

The National Transport and Safety Authority will introduce an electronic logbook system on June 10 to replace paper records for vehicle ownership in Kenya.

The National Transport and Safety Authority has announced that it will replace traditional paper logbooks with a new digitised e-Logbook system. The changes will take effect on June 10 and integrate fully with the government's eCitizen platform.

NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa made the announcement during a media briefing at the third Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference at South Eastern Kenya University. He said the system will allow vehicle owners to access logbooks electronically while reducing bureaucracy.

Kondiwa added that the move eliminates the risk of using outdated paper logbooks and reduces fraud during private vehicle sales. The new logbooks will include encryption, secure hashing and a QR code for instant verification by buyers, banks and insurers.

Sellers and buyers will be able to initiate ownership transfers online without visiting NTSA offices. Preparations are in the final stages with support systems already in place to ensure a smooth transition.
