Orsa cancels council meeting due to lack of agenda items

Orsa municipality canceled its first council meeting of 2026, an election year, due to insufficient items requiring decisions. Chair Anne-Marie Fröjdh (C) cited efficiency and cost savings. SVT Dalarna visited Orsa to seek hot topics for the next meeting.

Orsa municipal council, the municipality's highest decision-making body, was recently canceled. The reason was a lack of sufficient items requiring decisions, according to Anne-Marie Fröjdh (C), the chair.

"We have many matters but many do not need to go to the municipal council. Some things can be handled by the municipal executive board for faster processing," she says. The decision is described as both economic and efficient.

SVT Dalarna spoke with residents, the majority (C+S), and the opposition. Nearly all Orsa residents asked were satisfied with the municipality's operations. Even the largest opposition party SD currently has no major complaints.

"We had the interrupted referendum on wind power and the placement of the new elderly home Slipstenen. Those issues have been thoroughly discussed. But I think all parties here are quite in agreement; we all want what's best for Orsa," says Marc Ersson (SD), council member.

The next municipal council meeting is scheduled for April 20.
