Over 55 million citizens access medical services via community health insurance

The Ethiopian Health Insurance Service announced that more than 55 million citizens received medical services through community-based health insurance in the 2018 budget year.

Service Director General Tesfaye Werku stated that the program has reached 1,279 districts nationwide. More than 10.7 million citizens joined as members during the budget year.

Over 10.5 billion birr was paid to medical institutions for service fees. In addition, 7.5 million citizens unable to pay received free medical services.

The service is conducting its budget year performance review in Gondar city.
