Police launch manhunt after chaos in Ol Kalou ahead of by-election

Police in Nyandarua are searching for a former MCA and a county assembly official after overnight violence in Ol Kalou disrupted political activities. The incident occurred on Wednesday night near a hotel hosting a DCP-linked meeting, one day before the July 2 report and 14 days before the July 16 by-election.

Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa stated that authorities would not tolerate destruction of property, threats or intimidation. “We have seen in the last few days incidents involving the destruction of government property and threats. We will not allow people, either verbally or physically, to threaten others. Everyone has the right to campaign without being disturbed,” he said.

The violence involved gunshots and groups targeting hotels believed to host rival supporters. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused security officers and state-linked groups of disrupting DCP activities, while Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed the claims and warned against incitement.

Jaldesa condemned the intimidation of businesses and said action would be taken against misinformation. The by-election is scheduled for July 16.
