Prosecutor General Gregorio Eljach Pacheco urged Colombians to prevent attempts to delegitimize the results of the June 21 presidential elections.
During a meeting with directors of regional media on June 17, Eljach Pacheco stated that “nobody can take away from Colombians their sacred right to constitute their institutions, regardless of the result delivered by the ballot boxes”. He added that the only authority competent to define the validity of an election is the National Electoral Council.
National Registrar Hernán Penagos and Comptroller General Carlos Rodríguez participated in the event. Penagos highlighted that all institutions are fulfilling their task so that the elections proceed normally. Rodríguez noted that “the institutional framework has faced a very important challenge, but it has shown that what exists is strong and solid”.
Eljach Pacheco emphasized that “the final result will be respected, the legitimacy and stability of society depends on that” and that “no minority, no misfit or lunatic has the right to take away hope from Colombians”.
