Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson is entering his third NFL season facing significant questions about his role on the team. After limited production in his first two years, he is working to secure a spot amid new additions at the position.
The Steelers drafted Wilson hoping he could develop into a player similar to legendary wide receiver Hines Ward. His rookie 2024 season was cut short by an ankle injury, limiting him to one game with no targets.
In 2025, Wilson appeared in 13 games and recorded 12 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns. His connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers was inconsistent, and he finished the year as a healthy scratch in four of the final five games.
This offseason, the team traded for Michael Pittman Jr. and drafted Germie Bernard. Wilson has trained with a route specialist and spent time with Rodgers and other pass catchers. The Athletic's Mike DeFabo noted that Wilson has a prime opportunity in 2026 but faces stiffer competition under the new coaching staff led by Mike McCarthy.
