This situation has made their work difficult, and locals are questioning a Sh5 million renovation done in 2022. The area police commander has acknowledged the power cut and stated it is the county government's responsibility to pay the bill.
The Sameri Park police station in Kitengela, Kajiado County, has been without electricity for two years since its establishment in 2022. This has compelled officers to rely on candles and lanterns during nighttime duties to continue their work. Additionally, the station lacks water, despite the nearby Tanathi water project.
The facility is in poor condition; it has only one wooden desk for recording incident reports, and a wall is cracked. Power and water were disconnected due to an unpaid bill. An unnamed officer stated, “We have to buy our own candles. Life has become very difficult as we carry out our duties.”
This issue became evident when a burglary suspect was locked in a small cell with poor ventilation, prompting officers to break a wall to rescue him.
Residents are disappointed with the station's state, claiming it receives insufficient support from the local community and leadership. James Okumbu criticized the area's leadership for failing to improve the station after a Sh5 million renovation funded by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) in 2022. He said, “We want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to conduct an audit to find out how those funds were used. It has been two years since the renovation, but we see nothing significant.”
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Simon Lokitari acknowledged the power disconnection and noted that it is the county government's duty to settle the bill. He added, “Despite the hardships, our officers remain committed to performing their duties.”
