Following their arrests last week, a Michoacán control judge has linked former Uruapan official Samuel ‘N’ and Josué Eulogio ‘N’ (‘El Viejito’) to trial for the November 2025 murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo, ordering preventive prison amid confessions and betrayal revelations from Manzo's widow, Grecia Quiroz.
In an update to the Carlos Manzo murder investigation (see prior coverage on arrests), a control judge in Michoacán on January 12, 2026, formally linked Samuel ‘N’—former director of Public Relations and Protocol in Uruapan—and Josué Eulogio ‘N’, alias ‘El Viejito’, to trial for their roles in the execution-style killing of Mayor Carlos Manzo on November 2, 2025, during Day of the Dead festivities.
Samuel allegedly supplied real-time details on Manzo's movements, including a photo from the Casa de Cultura, to a CJNG cell led by ‘El Licenciado’ in exchange for cocaine doses delivered by ‘El Viejito’, his supplier and intermediary. During an eight-hour hearing before Judge Luis Fernando Díaz Parra, both were charged with qualified homicide and intentional injuries. Samuel will serve preventive prison in El Altiplano prison, while ‘El Viejito’ goes to the High Impact Center.
‘El Viejito’ confessed to Samuel's involvement, noting they met seven months prior via family. Samuel showed no remorse, complaining Manzo's work demands—including denied leave to see his daughter—had 'fed him up.'
Grecia Quiroz, Manzo's wife and current mayor, expressed betrayal: Samuel, from Mexico City and ex-PRI advisor, was efficient initially but not aligned with Manzo's Independent Hat Movement. Her secretary, Yesenia ‘N’, was questioned but cleared.
The case exposes internal corruption aiding CJNG's hit, supervised by Ramiro ‘N’ (‘El Jaguar’), with later murders of accomplices on the Uruapan-Paracho highway. Security chief Omar García Harfuch has highlighted CJNG coordination via WhatsApp.
