Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay disclosed on Monday at league meetings that his team explored trading wide receiver Davante Adams during the offseason. This followed discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles about acquiring A.J. Brown. McVay kept Adams informed throughout and now states he is 'glad [Adams is] a Ram,' according to Adam Grosbard of the LA Daily News/OC Register. Adams joined the Rams on a two-year, $44 million contract and posted 60 catches for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2025—his fewest receptions and yards since 2015 but most scores since 2022. His red-zone production helped the Rams improve from 25th to seventh in red-zone touchdown percentage, en route to a 12-5 record and an NFC Championship loss to the Super Bowl-champion Seahawks. The Rams considered a trade due to Adams' $28 million cap hit, the fourth-highest among wide receivers, and upcoming extensions for young stars like Puka Nacua, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Steve Avila, and Warren McClendon. Los Angeles recently traded for Trent McDuffie on a four-year, $124 million extension—the largest ever for a cornerback—and signed Jaylen Watson to a three-year, $51 million deal. Adams received a $6 million roster bonus on March 15, after which trade momentum faded. McVay explained that no deal improved the roster enough to proceed, emphasizing Adams' value as a No. 2 receiver behind Nacua, where 85% of his catches gained first downs or touchdowns. Potential suitors included the Eagles, Packers, Patriots, Bills, and Ravens, teams eyeing contention. The Rams hold the No. 13 draft pick to further bolster their Super Bowl-contending squad.
