Meteorological spring has arrived in much of Sweden for the weekend. Double-digit temperatures and plenty of sun are forecast, especially in the south up to 14 degrees. Meteorologists warn of cool nights and a change afterward.
After a cold winter, the weekend of March 20–22, 2026, brings spring temperatures across much of Sweden. Niklas Einevik, meteorologist at SMHI, says southern Sweden will be dominated by high pressure with weak winds. “It will be a lot of sun and warm around 10 degrees during the day, but there are also cool nights and mornings with frost and a bit below zero,” he states. Most sun and warmth are expected in Götaland and Svealand, while Norrland sees around 5 degrees and more clouds due to low-pressure influence east of the mountains. Spring is advancing north along Norrland's coasts, notes Einevik, who urges caution with fires due to grass fire risk in the sunniest, warmest areas. Lasse Rydqvist at Klart calls it “the year's first real spring weekend.” He forecasts 10–14 degrees in eastern Sweden including Stockholm, Uppsala, Södermanland, Östergötland, and Småland coast, though slightly windy on coasts. Sunday stays sunny in the south, cooler in Norrland with more clouds. The mountain regions get snow and rain, colder than elsewhere. Nights are chilly in typical March weather. The forecast changes quickly: a low pressure from the Norwegian Sea arrives by Tuesday with rain, snow, and wind. “This weekend is the first really good one we've had in a while,” says Rydqvist after previous variable weather.
