Stardew Valley creator denies plans to add marriage cheating

Eric Barone has assured fans of Stardew Valley that he has no intention of adding the ability to cheat on spouses in the farming simulation. The solo developer addressed recent rumours in a series of posts on X after comments to GameInformer sparked speculation.

Barone explained that his earlier remarks were taken out of context. He had been speaking theoretically about sandbox games allowing players to face consequences for bad actions, such as everyone in town hating the player and causing family chaos. Barone stressed that he is not going to implement such a feature, noting it would be too realistic for the game's tone as an escape.
