Stefan Axelsson named interim chairman of HV71

HV71 announced the immediate resignations of chairman Anna-Lena Isaksson and board member Jonas Askerlund following another season of fighting to stay in the SHL. Vice chairman Stefan Axelsson has taken over leadership temporarily. The move comes amid tensions between the board and the club's nomination committee.

Jönköping-based hockey club HV71 revealed on Sunday that Anna-Lena Isaksson and Jonas Askerlund have stepped down from their positions after the team faced qualification rounds for the third straight year to remain in the SHL. Isaksson, who served two years, cited a rift with the nomination committee, which did not plan to renominate her. She described the committee as overly intrusive in an interview with Expressen, saying, “De har sina fingrar med i alla syltburkar, vilket skapar både oro och stress i organisationen och hos oss i styrelsen.” Isaksson added that she had raised concerns about their role as early as fall 2024 and felt they behaved like a control organ, even fighting to limit their attendance at board meetings. She emphasized that members should understand these dynamics as a reason the club struggles to stabilize. HV71 vice chairman Stefan Axelsson is now leading the board on an interim basis until the nomination committee proposes a candidate and the annual general meeting elects a new chairman. Speaking to Jönköpings-Posten, Axelsson said the focus remains on evaluating the previous season and preparing for the next. “Jag är vice ordförande och tillfälligt i ordföranderollen till dess att valberedningen presenterar ett förslag och årsmötet väljer en ny ordförande. Jag ser det som ett tillfälligt uppdrag,” he stated, expressing no immediate desire for the permanent role.
