Tom Morello shares stage with son Roman at Bangalore concert

Tom Morello, the former Rage Against the Machine guitarist, was joined by his 14-year-old son Roman during a performance in Bangalore, India, on December 21. The duo collaborated on several tracks, including their 2024 single and classic covers. Footage of the event has since circulated online.

Tom Morello concluded a series of three shows in India with a performance at Phoenix Marketcity in Bangalore on December 21. His set drew from his extensive career, featuring hits from Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, alongside newer material.

A highlight was the appearance of his son Roman, who joined him for their collaborative single 'Soldier In The Army Of Love,' released in 2024. The young guitarist also participated in covers of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Mr. Crowley' and Steve Vai's 'For The Love Of God.' The concert closed with Roman returning for a medley of Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing In The Name,' John Lennon's 'Power To The People,' and KISS's 'Rock And Roll All Nite.'

Reflecting on the song's creation in an interview last year, Morello described Roman's rapid progress: “During the pandemic, while the rest of us were baking bread and trying to learn a language, he was practising guitar for eight hours a day. I’ve been relegated to being the rhythm guitar player in my family as I have a shredding prodigy now who’s really giving me a run for my money.” He recounted discovering Roman's riffs: “One day I was walking by his room and these huge drop-D riffs were coming out of there... ‘Son. Those go very well together and we’re about to write our first song together.’” Morello emphasized the track's theme: “So ‘Soldier In The Army Of Love’ is about the redemptive power of rock and roll. It’s got huge Morello riffs from multi-generations and a shredding guitar solo where you have to guess which one of us played.”

The full setlist included:
