The TSV Altenholz women's handball team lost 22:25 to league-bottom Frankfurter HC in the 3rd division. An illness wave severely depleted their squad, with several players absent and coach Henning Berger himself sick. Despite a strong start, the Wolves couldn't turn the game around.
In Frankfurt/Oder, the TSV Altenholz women's handball team faced league-bottom Frankfurter HC in the 3rd Handball League. Before 275 spectators in the Brandenburg-Halle, the away game ended in a 22:25 defeat (10:14 at halftime) for the Wolves. The match was overshadowed by a severe illness wave that heavily thinned their squad.
Several key players had to stay home: Maria Molge, Sina Weiß, Henriette Seidel, Anna Glaser, Cara Sophie Kuchel, and Anastasia von Neindorff. Coach Henning Berger himself was affected and sniffled after the final whistle: "We had an absolute rump squad, and half of those who came were still sick." Berger added, however: "We could still have taken something here." After three consecutive losses, Altenholz now has its first negative goal difference of the season (12:14).
The TSVA women started strongly, leading 4:1 in the 10th minute. But the hosts, who had lost 14:46 in the first leg, turned it around before halftime to lead 14:10. "The defense in the first half was reasonable. Unfortunately, we go into the break down by four," Berger analyzed. In the second half, the weakened team collapsed, trailing 12:20 by the 39th minute. "The start of the second half was catastrophic. The missed throws and technical errors broke our neck," the coach admitted.
A small comeback brought the visitors to 22:24 three minutes from the end, but it was unsuccessful. Top scorer was Jule Steingräber with five goals; goalkeeper Weidmann made eight saves. Other scorers: Burmeister (4), Miegel (4), Orzol (3/2), Janczek (2), Hewig (2/2), Thielmann (2), Fehrke. Now, Berger plans recovery: "At the beginning of the week, we might take a training-free day so we can rehabilitate." On the coming Saturday (6 p.m.), they host the second team of Buxtehuder SV, another relegation candidate.
