Eight-time Grand Slam title winner Val Sweeting has joined the Victoria-based team of Kayla MacMillan. The club announced the move Sunday on social media. Sweeting spent the previous eight seasons playing third on Kerri Einarson's team from Gimli, Man.
Val Sweeting, a 38-year-old from Lottie Lake, Alta., brings a wealth of experience to MacMillan's squad. She recently secured her fifth Scotties Tournament of Hearts title with Einarson in February and earned silver at the World Women's Curling Championship last month. Sweeting also claimed back-to-back bronze medals at the women's world championships with Einarson in 2022 and 2023, along with eight Grand Slam of Curling titles overall—three as skip and five with Einarson. MacMillan's team, which includes second Lindsay Dubue and lead Lauren Lenentine, parted ways with third Brittany Tran and alternate Sarah Loken last week. Meanwhile, Einarson's retooled lineup features Shannon Birchard moving to third, Karlee Burgess at second, and Jocelyn Peterman joining as lead while handling vice-skip duties.
