Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi has called for disciplinary action against ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for disrespecting party leaders, speaking in Rarieda on January 2, 2026. This follows Oburu Oginga's recent unity pleas and comes amid debates over potential alliances with President Ruto's UDA.
Building on party leader Dr Oburu Oginga's December calls for unity amid internal rifts, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to discipline Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and other officials for public disrespect toward leadership.
Speaking in Rarieda Constituency on January 2, 2026, Wandayi emphasized that senior figures like Sifuna must uphold discipline and avoid undermining the party. “If you are a party leader occupying the position of Secretary General, you must respect fellow leaders,” he said.
Wandayi also appealed to Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, ODM vice chairperson, to help address the indiscipline. Amollo affirmed confidence in Oburu's leadership, post-Raila Odinga, and pledged party unity for upcoming elections.
The push follows Sifuna's criticisms alleging ODM alignment with President William Ruto's camp. On December 31, 2025, Oburu announced ODM would decide by end-2026 on partnering with UDA or running independently, positioning himself as presidential candidate if solo. Any UDA alliance would hinge on fulfilling a prior 10-point agenda and MOU.
