White Sox acquire José Urquidy from Pirates in reported trade

The Chicago White Sox are acquiring right-hander José Urquidy from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The deal, reported by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, has not been confirmed by either team.

Urquidy posted an 8.53 ERA in six appearances with the Pirates this season. Pittsburgh designated the 31-year-old for assignment on Friday.

Urquidy owns a 4.07 ERA across 86 career games, primarily with the Houston Astros from 2019 to 2023. He underwent his second Tommy John surgery in 2024 and appeared with the Detroit Tigers in 2025.

In return, the White Sox sent right-hander Felix Doroteo to the Pirates. The 21-year-old recorded a 4.50 ERA in 18 innings with the White Sox’s ACL affiliate.

The 2026 trade deadline is set for August 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
