Head writer Josh Griffith has left The Young and the Restless. CBS said the departure was his decision, though the network is now searching for a replacement. The new head writer is expected to begin work ahead of Season 54 in October.
The exit follows months of lackluster ratings and rising fan criticism. Griffith had been in the role since 2019.
Viewers have voiced several demands for the incoming writer. They want fewer stories involving sexual assault, fewer kidnappings, and less focus on Victor Newman always prevailing without consequences.
Fans also seek reduced screen time for Phyllis Summers and more storylines for younger characters in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. They call for stronger romance plots and better use of existing cast members such as Adam Newman, Sharon Newman, and Mariah Copeland.
