20th Century Studios unveils Ice Age: Boiling Point trailer at CinemaCon

20th Century Studios debuted the first trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Point at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, bringing back the franchise after more than a decade. Voice actors Ray Romano, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah promoted the animated adventure, slated for theaters next February. The preview featured Scrat navigating volcanic chaos with his new baby.

The trailer shows Scrat, the franchise's saber-toothed squirrel, interacting with his baby over an acorn in an icy prehistoric setting. Scrat gives the infant a tiny acorn as a pacifier, but a nearby volcano erupts, flooding the area with lava. Father and child then hop across ice floes to escape the disaster. The characters face a trip to a lost world filled with treacherous obstacles, including the volcano, at a pivotal moment in their lives, Latifah said. Romano opened with a joke: “Trump hasn’t landed yet, so relax. … I don’t know what I’m talking about.” He added, “The real Ice Age didn’t last this long. When we did [2002’s] Ice Age 1, I know I wasn’t wearing compression socks or reading glasses.” Leary noted that Romano has recently become a grandfather. The original Ice Age launched in 2002 under Blue Sky Studios, directed by Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha, earning over $383 million worldwide. Four sequels followed, pushing the series past $3.2 billion in global box office. John Leguizamo and Simon Pegg reprise their roles in Boiling Point, the first theatrical entry without Blue Sky after its 2021 closure. Producers are Lori Forte and Patrick Worlock.
