Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala faces an ongoing staffing crisis in the emergency department. More than 680 work shifts remain unfilled for the summer despite some improvement.
The situation at Akademiska Hospital's emergency department is described as still strained. According to the hospital's figures, 680 vacant shifts remained a week ago, down from over a thousand earlier.
Nursing assistants such as Li Vestman and Louise Celander Tocklin express concern about not managing their workload. They describe a pressured environment where staff have left the department and temporary staff have become harder to secure.
Chief physician Johan Lugnegård states that the real problems are expected after midsummer. The hospital has recruited more nurses who start after the summer and is trying to address the situation with more care places and emergency slots in primary care.
