Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe met with Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church religious fathers and leaders. The discussion emphasized collaboration for peace, development, and prosperity.
On Megabit 7, 2018 (Fana Media), Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe held a meeting with Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church religious fathers and leaders. In her social service message, she stated that under the leading idea 'Religious institutions at the forefront of government effort,' a fruitful discussion took place today. The Church affirmed its significant role in defending Ethiopia alongside other religious institutions. It preserves ancient Christians, histories, and values; educates generations; teaches good deeds and human rights; strengthens people-to-people service; and calls for unity in development efforts. The mayor noted the Church's contributions in recent years of change to the city's dual journey of peace building, development, and prosperity. The talks focused on serving people, peace, Ethiopia's prosperity, and national interest through unity. The meeting created an effective network to resolve some gaps amicably, serving as a summary of prior district-level discussions and clarifying government and religious roles. Church leaders expressed high appreciation and thanks for the initiative. The mayor plans similar engagements with Muslim leaders soon.
