AfD federal leadership demands new NRW candidate list election

The AfD federal leadership has called on the North Rhine-Westphalia state branch to abort and restart the selection of state parliament candidates. The reason is allegations of threats and pressure on delegates at the party congress in Marl.

In a letter sent Thursday evening to the NRW state executive, party leaders Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel wrote that there were significant indications of violations of election principles. Several consistent reports suggested that voting delegates had been threatened or put under pressure.

The assembly in Marl last weekend was marked by turmoil and chaos. It is scheduled to continue this Friday. The federal executive demands it be aborted to prevent the list from being rejected for the 2027 state election.

State spokesman Martin Vincentz and his faction reject an abort. They stress that only the delegates can decide. Vincentz accuses the Weidel-aligned side of sabotaging the assembly.
