AfD holds first democracy congress in Bundestag

The AfD parliamentary group opened its first democracy congress on Friday at the Paul-Löbe-Haus in Berlin. Participants will discuss freedom of opinion, media and human rights until Saturday afternoon.

Visitors received a program booklet with the AfD logo, a notepad and a ballpoint pen at the registration desk. Headphones were available for simultaneous translation, while television teams set up cameras next to the stage.

Parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel opened the event with the words: „Manchmal gibt es Veranstaltungen, deren bloße Notwendigkeit Anlass zur Sorge gibt. Unser erster Demokratiekongress ist eine solche Veranstaltung.“

The group had visibly invested effort in the congress titled „Meinungsfreiheit, Medien, Menschenrechte“, including catering with coffee, juices and snacks in the foyer near the Reichstag.
