Alison Brie excited to play supervillain Evil-Lyn in Masters of the Universe

Alison Brie expressed enthusiasm for portraying the supervillain Evil-Lyn in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe film. The actress, known for roles in Mad Men and Community, described the character as a classic femme fatale with humor. The movie, directed by Travis Knight, premieres in theaters on June 5.

Alison Brie, who plays Evil-Lyn in the Amazon MGM Studios' Masters of the Universe, said she 'was really excited to get to play a supervillain.' In an interview with USA Today, she noted, 'I watched a bunch of the old cartoon, and she really is like a classic femme fatale character, but with a sense of humor. Just unlike anything I’ve ever really done.' The role marks a departure from her previous work, which she described as grounded in reality, including her breakout performances as Trudy Campbell in Mad Men and Annie Edison in Community, as well as last year's indie film Together opposite her husband Dave Franco. Brie highlighted the film's larger-than-life quality: 'the whole point... is that everybody is larger than life − some people physically, this character more just in her evilness. It was so fun to work on, and the cast is great.' Directed by Travis Knight from a screenplay by Chris Buttler, based on an earlier draft by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee, the movie features Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and others including Sam C. Wilson, Hafthor Bjornsson, Kojo Attah, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson. The story follows 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashes to Earth and later returns to Eternia to become He-Man and battle Skeletor using his Power Sword. Evil-Lyn was originally voiced by Linda Gary in the 1983-1985 cartoon and played by Meg Foster in the 1987 live-action film.
