The Uttar Pradesh government is considering transferring the probe into alleged theft and embezzlement of funds donated to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to the CBI or another central agency. Sources indicated that the case involves economic offences requiring deeper investigation.
The state Special Investigation Team received an extension until July 15 to complete its inquiry and plans to revisit Ayodhya on July 3. The SIT submitted a preliminary report on June 23 and has questioned trustees of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Separately, Ayodhya police have arrested eight individuals and recovered Rs 79.80 lakh along with gold, silver, and foreign currency. Police are seeking custody of the accused, examining bank accounts, and reviewing the role of private security personnel at the temple.
