The Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have named candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections scheduled for June 18.
The BJP announced 11 candidates on June 4 for polls in five states. These include Tarun Chugh from Madhya Pradesh and Satish Poonia from Rajasthan. Union ministers Ravneet Singh Bittu and George Kurian were not included on the list. The Congress named seven nominees the same day. Mallikarjun Kharge, Pawan Khera and Mansoor Ali Khan will contest from Karnataka. Praveen Chakravarty was fielded from Tamil Nadu. The elections cover 24 seats across 10 states. Nominations close on June 8. The BJP currently holds 113 seats in the 245-member House while the NDA has 148.
