The swearing-in of the first BJP government is scheduled for May 9 at 10 am at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend. BJP MLAs will meet on May 8 to elect their leader.

Post-poll violence has continued. Chandranath Rath, aide to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead on May 7 in Madhyamgram. Police described it as a planned professional killing.
