Bogotá's mayor's office proposes $350 TransMilenio fare increase

Bogotá's mayor's office sent a draft decree to raise the TransMilenio fare by $350, aiming to offset the impact of the national government's 23% minimum wage increase decreed on December 29.

As Bogotá rang in the new year, the mayor's office sent a draft decree proposing a $350 increase in the TransMilenio fare. The move addresses the 23% minimum wage hike set by the national government on December 29, 2025.

TransMilenio S.A. revised its estimate for the Tariff Stabilization Fund (FET) and recommended this fare adjustment for general users. The goal is to aid the district administration's decisions and cushion the effects of macroeconomic variables on system costs.

An economic analysis incorporating the new minimum wage revealed additional funding needs for 2026, ranging from $125.614 million to $147.775 million, assuming other cost variables remain unchanged. This tariff scenario would cover part of the legal monthly minimum wage (Smmlv) impact and provide $49.258 million more than the approved budget for that year.

The mayor's office highlighted that the proposal aims to balance operational costs amid macroeconomic growth, without altering other aspects of the mass transit system.
