The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has filed an election complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe. The party questions the results of the 2025 Bundestag election and cites alleged counting errors. The aim is a recount to maintain trust in the electoral system.
The Bundestag election took place on February 23, 2025. According to the official result, the BSW achieved 4.981 percent of the second votes, narrowly missing the five-percent threshold and entry into the Bundestag by 9,529 votes nationwide.
The party had already presented details of its complaint in Berlin on February 9. The Bundestag's election review committee examined the objections for months but rejected them as unfounded and refused a recount.
The BSW has now filed a 177-page election complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court, as reported by Stern. The document relies on eight sworn statements from voters to substantiate errors in the counting process.
Party leader Amira Mohamed Ali told Stern: "These are demonstrably incorrect results that clearly point to structural errors in the counting to the detriment of the BSW. We know that the official final result is wrong."
Sahra Wagenknecht emphasized: The BSW has proven "irregularities and systematic counting errors to our detriment." The party is not suing for entry into the Bundestag but solely for the correct determination of the election result and the public's trust in the democratic system.
If the alleged errors were corrected, the BSW would have entered parliament. The seats would have been distributed differently, and the black-red coalition under Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) would not have had a majority.
